International Day Without “Plastic” Bags
June 6, 2026
Does it make sense to continue discussing environmental challenges as if we were still at the beginning of the 21st century?
July 3 marked International Plastic Bag-Free Day, a date established in a context very different from the one in which we now produce, consume, and manage materials on a global scale.
This date is an opportunity for us to reflect on a greater challenge: sustainability does not depend solely on the materials we use, but above all on how we consume, reuse, and manage resources.
Environmental challenges are not solved by campaigns targeting a specific material, but through effective public policies, innovation, and responsible behavior, supported by the best available scientific evidence. That is why the debate must evolve.
There is only one planet, and solutions must be global, integrated, and based on the circular economy.
Sustainability is not achieved by switching materials. It is achieved by changing behaviors, promoting innovation, and making holistic and informed decisions.
Instead of an International Day Without Plastic Bags, we should rather speak of an International Day Without “Bags,” in order to avoid oversimplifying the debate and to call for greater rigor in how we view the problems and their solutions.
This is where the debate and action must evolve!
