WUPA presented at the Rethinking Plastics Session at Equiplast 2026
June 4, 2026
On 4 June, Pedro Paes do Amaral, Executive Vice-President of APIP, presented the WUPA – World Union of Plastics Associations during one of the "Rethinking Plastics" sessions organised by CEP – Centro Español de Plásticos as part of Equiplast 2026, held in Barcelona.
This international forum provided an opportunity to showcase WUPA's mission, objectives and ongoing development. The initiative was launched in early 2025 by its two founding members – APIP and PAGEV – and further consolidated during the Plastics Summit – Global Event 2025.
Today, WUPA brings together 37 members from 30 countries and is currently undergoing a significant phase of international expansion, strengthening its global reach and representativeness.
WUPA was created from the belief that the challenges facing the plastics industry – including circularity, resource management, public perception, competitiveness and regulatory harmonisation – require a collaborative response on a global scale.
As an international platform for cooperation and strategic alignment, WUPA aims to:
- Strengthen the collective voice of the plastics industry worldwide;
- Promote knowledge sharing and the exchange of best practices across countries and regions;
- Facilitate alignment on key industry challenges;
- Build a global narrative based on facts, innovation and sustainability;
- Encourage international cooperation towards a truly circular economy.
At a time when regulatory decisions, environmental challenges and value chains are increasingly global, WUPA plays a key role in building bridges between organisations, fostering greater alignment of efforts and ensuring a stronger, more coordinated representation of the plastics industry at the international level.
More than an alliance, WUPA represents a shared vision for the future of the plastics industry, promoting dialogue, collaboration and the development of solutions capable of addressing global societal challenges.
Because the challenges are global.
And the answer must be global too.
