On May 21, 2026, the new European Waste Shipment Regulation came into effect, and the DIWASS (Digital Waste Shipment System) platform was officially launched. This platform now provides digital support for the notification and monitoring processes associated with cross-border waste shipments within the EU.

The new system aims to:

  • Increase traceability
  • Strengthen control and combat illegal waste shipments
  • Simplify administrative procedures
  • Promote greater efficiency and transparency among authorities and operators.

The transition to fully digital processes represents an important step toward the harmonization and modernization of European waste management procedures. At the same time, it brings new operational, technological, and regulatory challenges, requiring adaptation on the part of companies, logistics operators, and competent authorities.
